Quick Start Guide

Setting up SuggestiMate for JIRA is very easy. You should follow the simple steps described below.

Please contact us if you experience any problem during installation or configuration.

1. Install Plugin into Your JIRA

Installation procedure is absolutely the same as for all JIRA plugins.

  1. Shut down JIRA.
  2. Copy SuggestiMate for JIRA plugin jar into the appropriate plugins directory:
    • If you are using JIRA 3.x, copy the jar into your JIRA installation directory under atlassian-jira/WEB-INF/lib/.
    • If you are using JIRA 4.x, copy the jar into your JIRA home directory under plugins/installed-plugins/.
  3. Start up JIRA.
  4. Go to 'Administration > System > Plugins > SuggestiMate for JIRA'. SuggestiMate for JIRA plugin will be listed and enabled.

2. Configure SuggestiMate for JIRA

Now it's time to set up your plugin settings

First create a custom field which will show similar issues:

  1. Go to 'Administration > Issue Fields > Custom Fields'.
  2. Select 'Add custom field'.
  3. Select 'Similar issues custom field'.
  4. Fill in the details. Set field name, for example to 'Similar issues', leave all other settings as set by default. Click next.
  5. Select "Default screen" checkbox. Also select other custom screens if you want to see similar issues on them. Click next. Ensure that a new custom field 'Similar issues' is created.

Now you can optionally configure plugin parameters:

  1. Go to 'Administration > Global Settings > SuggestiMate Configuration'.
  2. Change parameters. See them in action. Tune them to get the best results for your case. Default values should be good enough to start with.
  3. If you have already obtained license key cut and paste it into the license key area.

3. Start Using the Plugin

Now when you configured SuggestiMate for JIRA it's time to start working with it.

  • Try browsing some issues and see that there is a new field populated with links to similar issues
  • Try creating new issue and notice suggestions displayed below as you type in the summary field
